ABSTRACT

I had been working as a therapist on and off for almost 30 years when the trajectory of my life and work abruptly shifted. Through the years I’ve worked in a variety of settings, beginning with my first jobs in a crisis center and community college. After an internship in a psychiatric unit in a teaching hospital, I supervised therapists in a community mental health center and then in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. Although I have spent a fair bit of time training and supervising therapists in various countries around the world, most of my clinical work has been in private practice, with mostly affluent professionals.
