ABSTRACT

Social justice counseling is an activist process. The activist/interventionist is typically involved directly with the people and social structures that affect a constituent’s experience of justice or lack thereof. Our work is at least one step removed from activist involvement. Our short-term work is to support and empower the “activists” who have some form of social justice or compassion service role in their culture of residence. In this chapter, we will refer to them as cross-cultural workers. Often, they are expatriates who have committed to living in a foreign culture and working with nationals toward their justice or compassion goals.
