ABSTRACT

This story began when I was perusing the websites of professional conferences in the field of psychiatry. I was looking for motivation and inspiration—a change of some sort. I was feeling antsy professionally, despite the satisfaction I received every day in my work as a staff psychiatrist at a homeless women’s shelter, and in my private practice. Stagnation was the word that often kept coming to my mind, and I was looking to expand my repertoire of therapies and skills in the field of couple’s therapy, my newfound area of interest. I found the keynote speakers and topics at a brief therapy conference to be particularly interesting, and since the timing and location seemed just right, I signed up.
