ABSTRACT

P. Ia. Gal’perin is one of the most influential Soviet workers in the field of the psychology of learning and teaching. This paper is a detailed statement of his views on the nature of the teacher’s influence on children’s learning and thinking. These views have considerable following in the U.S.S.R. but so far have made little impact elsewhere. This is unfortunate in view of their obvious importance to teachers and theorists as examples of research at the ‘applied level’.
