ABSTRACT

This article is concerned with the use of educational objectives at several levels of detail in the educational process. The most general levels of objectives are more relevant to program planning, the intermediate level to curriculum development, and the most specific level to instructional material development. The article makes two basic points:

Objectives at several levels of generality and specificity are needed to facilitate the process of curriculum building and instructional development.

A framework or taxonomy currently exists which can facilitate the development and analysis of objectives at the intermediate level, and one is at present being developed at the more detailed level.
