ABSTRACT
There is a revival today of the belief that some metaphysically innocent form of emergence plays an important constructive role in the empirical sciences that explain complex natural systems, although much controversy remains (Bedau and Humphreys 2008). This paper contributes to this revival by explaining how emergence is connected with computer simulations and with complex systems in nature. 1
