ABSTRACT

As the main introduction has already argued, bodybuilding would probably never have achieved its success had it not been for photography. Without the process to capture images of bodybuilders and, most importantly, disseminate them, the activity of bodybuilding would never have attained any degree of recognition other than by a tiny minority of practitioners or fans. Indeed, one of the key points in this respect is that many people believe they “know” what a bodybuilder looks like but will have probably only ever seen this body in representation. In this sense, bodybuilding for many people exists as representation.
