ABSTRACT

There is perhaps no more central and foundational human resource system than performance appraisal. However, even after decades of research on how to design and implement effective performance appraisal systems, there remains considerable dissatisfaction by organizations with such systems. Add to this the additional challenges of effectively managing an increasingly diverse workforce in U.S. organizations and the design of performance appraisal systems in overseas operations for multinational companies, and we have a broad array of issues that need to be addressed in order to successfully manage performance in organizations worldwide today and in the future.
