ABSTRACT

Social and educational equality requires all members of a society to be able to envision a career path that enables them to fulfill their intellectual potential and thus participate fully in that society. Unfortunately, however, this may not be the case for many females in the United States. As a recent report by The National Academy of Sciences (2006) argues, women in math-based fields such as science and engineering face many barriers to their success and participation in these domains, a situation that leads to potential educational inequalities for nearly half of the nation’s population.
