ABSTRACT
A note from Ken Goodman: We do not claim in this book to offer an eclectic view of reading. The authors share a common view of reading as the construction of meaning, and a secondary purpose of the book is to demonstrate the appropriateness of this comprehensive model of reading to all writing systems. But we must examine the evidence for other views and consider how our view can explain the differing conclusions of other authorities.
