ABSTRACT
Although its rank in the international standard of living has slipped in recent years due to persistent inflation (in 1986,18% or more), New Zealand still shares—with those countries placed higher and lower—well developed and widely distributed electronic media systems. Broadcast television was introduced in 1960, and in the 1980s a two-channel, monopolistic television system provided near total coverage for an estimated audience of slightly less than 3 million.
