ABSTRACT
The Eurobarometer (EB) survey, the survey instrument of the European Commission in Brussels, has been asking questions pertaining to public sentiments on science and technology since the 1970s. A series of four strongly related EB surveys have recently been integrated (N>50,000, 60 variables) into a longitudinal database to study changes and continuities in the culture of science across Europe between 1989 and 2005 across twelve EU countries (EU12). Comparable questions cover knowledge, interest, and various attitude facets in relation to level of education, religiosity, age, and gender. The chapter will compare changes over time on these indicators and their relationship (Bauer, Shukla, & Kakkar, 2008).
