ABSTRACT

In recent times, the national and international business environment has undergone rapid, intense change, especially in terms of new competitors, new technology, and new markets. This change, which has affected practically every business, has had a particularly defined effect on industrial districts, leaving many of the companies within these agglomerations in a critical situation (Onida, Viesti, & Falzoni, 1992; Harrison, 1994; Passaro, 1994; Alberti, 2006). As a result of this both academics and business people have begun to rethink the principles of these territorial systems (Biggiero, 2006). Creativity of both individual firms and systems of firms as a whole becomes a key factor in this renew of organizational and strategic bases (Belussi & Staber, 2009; Staber, 2009).
