ABSTRACT
After years of expansion, research on regional integration is facing new challenges. A considerable number of case studies focused on single regional initiatives and neglected a comparative perspective. Together with a lack of adequate and specific methodology, this singular focus led to an unsatisfying ability to forecast the development potentials of these complex political systems.
