ABSTRACT

Electronics and communications have changed the way people live and work today. The number and variety of electronic devices that have become an integral part of our life are so large and all-permeating that we cannot imagine our lives without them. We are so unaware of the presence of electronics around us — at home, at the workplace or when we are travelling — that only a few amongst us would be able to make a complete list. Further, these devices are becoming more and more powerful with each passing day. They communicate with us, they communicate among themselves and they communicate with the outside world in a manner not known to most. These powerful devices have given us great power and efficiency. We have most information on our fingertips. We can find within minutes a document that was written and filed away some time ago, or can lay our hands on any public document equally quickly. Understanding a difficult concept is no longer as difficult since search engines enable us to take the help of the world's best encyclopaedia within minutes. Communication through these devices with almost anyone in the world is instantaneous and can be through written words, voice, pictures and video without much ado; furthermore, this communication can be recorded and recalled whenever we want. Events occurring almost anywhere in the world are beamed into our homes in an instant.
