ABSTRACT

India's technological prowess has been well recognised through successes like Chandrayaan–1, fast breeder reactor, missile interceptor, global presence of Indian IT capability, Tata's Nano car, and the Delhi Metro in recent years. Our food production has kept pace with the growth in population. India produces a large number of engineers (in excess of 700,000) every year. Many believe India will emerge as a superpower in a few decades, largely due to its science and technology (S&T) achievements. New initiatives in S&T education, increasing emphasis on emerging areas like nano technology and biotechnology, including genetic engineering, afford a feeling of comfort about our ability to face the future.
