ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we provide an overview of the initial years and communist transformation of Hungarian football. The effects of the collapse of communism and the era of post-communism will then be explored with heed paid to football-specifi c transformative conditions. Also, the current socio-cultural organisation of football will be discussed, along with newly emerging political, economic, and social challenges, including fi nancing, migration, and grassroots development.
