In my previous chapter, I gave an account of an ongoing collective attempt to create and defend a critically democratic space at the place where I spend much of my time. Underpinning that chapter was a commitment to personal accountability—to not simply criticize educational institutions “out there” in society, but to take responsibility for one’s own actions in educational institutions “right here.” I tried to be honest about the tensions and material/ideological/personal conditions that we faced and continue to face in actually acting according to our deeply held political and educational commitments to the causes in which we believe and to each other. But in the end, we succeeded.
