ABSTRACT
Education is concerned with the improvement of the mind. Central to the development of the mind is the growth of knowledge, and central to this is the development of concepts through which experience is organized. Hence, at the very centre of educational issues are philosophical problems about:
the nature of knowledge and the validity of particular knowledge claims (epistemology);
what knowledge is of most worth (ethics); and
the nature of mental activities (philosophy of mind).
