Challenges, Opportunities, and Possibilities for Learning to Teach in Urban Schools

When I began working on my first full time junior high school assignment, I was absolutely thrilled. I had a challenging class that year. The students were seventh and eighth graders who were well below grade level in reading. In this urban setting the majority of the students were Hispanic with English as their second language, African American, and a small percentage were Caucasian.
