ABSTRACT

Alice Thompson Meynell's earliest volume of poems, Preludes (1875), was commended by Ruskin, Tennyson, and Aubrey de Vere, and contained the poem "Renouncement." Other collections were Poems (1892) and Later Poems (1901). Her essays in The Scots Observer were published in Rhythm of Life (1893); The Colour of Life (1896) contained selections from her Pall Mall Gazette column "The Wares of Autolycus." Essays on childhood appeared in The Children (1897).
