ABSTRACT

Nesbit was seven months pregnant when she married Hubert Bland; the couple had three children, one of whom (Fabian) died at fifteen. In addition, Nesbit raised as her own two children born to Bland's mistress Alice Hoatson, who lived with them for more than thirty years. As a New Woman, Nesbit was unconventional in her dress, recreation, child-rearing methods, political opinions, and code of sexual morality.
