ABSTRACT

This chapter falls into two sections. In the second, more important section, the interrelations of images in a sonnet by Du Bellay will be analysed. In the first section, the relevant terminology and the theoretical foundations on which this analysis rests will be outlined. This investigation is based on elements of a theory developed from Aristotelian ideas and enriched by some insights from modern logic. This theory is expounded in detail in Coenen (2002). The first section of this chapter summarizes the theory only insofar as will be required for the present analysis.
