ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to focus on an ostensibly original European contribution to international relations behaviour, namely interregionalism, through a case study of European Union (EU) relations with another regional entity with a similar degree of longevity, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded in 1967. 2 Interregionalism is defined ‘as a process of widening and deepening political, economic, and societal interactions between international regions’ (Roloff 2006: 18).
