ABSTRACT

Interregionalism refers both to the relationship between two more or less institutionalized regional cooperation schemes and to the process of building interactions and links between two separate regions (Tsardanidis 2005a: 376). Literature on interregionalism tries to provide some analytical insights into the patterns and features of relations among regions. Despite the fact that this literature on inter- regionalism is scarce and its theoretical approaches are still very much in the process of development, there are certain convergences between the scholars regarding the reasons for the emergence, development and maintenance of inter- regional dialogues and relations (Hänggi et al. 2006).
