Another response to Douglas J. Den Uyl's ‘Das Shaftesbury Problem'

It was very kind of the editor to invite me to submit a response to Douglas J. Den Uyl's thought-provoking essay. I shall keep it brief – just long enough to offer additional evidence for two of Den Uyl's claims, and to call attention to a side of Smith's critique of Shaftesbury not discussed by Den Uyl – but which is, I think, of great interest and import.
