ABSTRACT

Before discussing the perspectives of Anglo-American capitalism, we need to be sufficiently clear about what we mean by it. In the presentation to this Symposium, it is equated with ‘the robust sort of capitalism’ favoured by Adam Smith. My opinion is, rather, that in recent decades – more or less since the times of Thatcher and Reagan – Anglo-American capitalism has moved away from the sort of capitalism favoured by Adam Smith, and this move has, on the whole, had negative consequences.
