ABSTRACT
According to Virginia Woolf in ‘Professions for Women,’ every woman author has to kill the angel in the house in order to deal “freely and openly” with “what you think to be the truth about human relations, morality, sex” (Woolf 1972, 286). The “angel in the house” tempts her to be “utterly selfless,” to “charm and … conciliate,” and to comfort rather than confront. Only when this angel is no longer there can a woman truly write.
