ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests ways of thinking about science and technology in a range of learning environments, the role that learning theories have in how children learn the content of the science and technology curriculum and other issues which impact on how they learn this subject knowledge. This chapter will not give you an introduction to scientific concepts and knowledge; plenty of texts provide this in a straightforward manner. We hope that you will begin to examine and question the role, content, and place that these subjects have had at the centre of the curriculum and whether this centrality is justified.
