ABSTRACT

Firefighters can’t be firefighters without entering burning buildings. Journalists can calmly ply their trade from behind a desk. It takes a certain kind of journalist to get out from behind the desk and visit the blazing buildings, markets, and roadsides laid to waste by international terrorism. Those outside the journalism profession often assume it’s part of the job, the urge to tell the story. But there are other ways to tell a story, and other stories to tell.
