ABSTRACT
A knowledge of law and of the legal system is of particular relevance for an understanding of Roman history because of the interest taken in law by the Romans, to which the abundance of juristic evidence testifies. This evidence sheds light not only on their social life and institutions but also on the workings of politics and of the Roman legal mind.
