ABSTRACT

Do not all people, everywhere, have a human right to food? To shelter? To medical assistance? To work that pays a living wage? To an adequate income and economic security, in the event that they cannot obtain these necessities through work? Welfare reform has been implemented in the United States as if such economic human rights do not exist. I take the position that such rights do indeed exist and urge others who share this position to become involved with and lend assistance to economic justice groups and other organizations that are pressing for recognition of and respect for economic human rights in the United States.
