ABSTRACT

Act I, scene 5. A room in a London house. A New Year's Eve party.

Irma (30) is black, bald and androgynous. There is something both enigmatic and charismatic about her. She is articulate and talkative, especially when sheis the subject. As shesays, 'I myselfhave neverhad a problem with people looking at me. It's being ignored I can't stand.' She sitscross-legged and wears a multicoloured jump suit and trainers. She exudes a centred and confident quality. She has arrived typically late at the party which is already well under way. In this scene she is alone with Leela and she launches into this speech soon after they introduce themselves. This is heronly appearance in the play.
