ABSTRACT

Th e 20th century, especially in the last decade, has been marked with the rapid growth in the number of women in leadership positions. Today, more women have become powerful public fi gures in politics, business, and education. What is the image of the modern powerful women in business and the pro-

fessions? Edvinsson and Malone (1997) state that most people’s utterances inform others of their personalities and identities. Recording the perspectives of the people in power, these interviews typically get at “the story underneath the story” of the intricacies of business decision-making, personal ambition, success, and family. Since knowledge is socially constructed and negotiated through dialogue, this research aims at analyzing the meanings underlying the discourse of well-known professional women who were interviewed.
