ABSTRACT

Many students in family science classes want to learn about people from different ethnic backgrounds. They realize that it is important in today’s world to know more about diversity and to be competent in dealing with people from diverse origins. At the same time, they often feel intimidated about interacting with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds for fear of not understanding them and accidentally offending them. Students also often lack the skills to work with individuals and families outside the academic setting, especially if these individuals and families come from different ethnic experiences.
