ABSTRACT

Recently a doctoral student struggling to find her own research question asked me, “What question lies at your heart?” What a remarkable question she posed. According to Senge, Scharmer, Jaworski, and Flowers (2004), when one knows the question that lies at the heart and is reaching a state of clarity about and connection to such a question, “there is no decision making” (p. 89). The answers to the question and necessary actions to take become obvious. The question that I have sought to answer for nearly 10 years has been this: “How do I get learners to interact sincerely online with each other?” My story shows that I have made many decisions and pursued many paths in pursuit of an answer. Hopefully, clarity and connection are forthcoming.
