ABSTRACT
What is it to be a teacher? What is the nature of teaching? Some may say that teachers provide information and explain the nature of apparently complex things. Others may say that teachers bring understanding and impart knowledge and wisdom. Still others may say that teachers promote and support learning. Surely we can identify teachers and describe what they do. We should also be able to develop ways to measure the quality of teaching and to provide guidelines to help improve teaching. Surely.
