ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses educational work carried out by a team from the Women’s Institute in Chile and adds to the collective effort of women who work to break down the spheres of domination and inequality between the sexes. The social transformation currently in process reflects the strong changes that are being produced among women leaders, who on the one hand adapt the masculine leadership model and on the other hand strengthen a new model for women as successful workers and initiators. The historical context of the educational labor that led to this analysis is the major political transition initiated in Chile at the beginning of the 1990s, a product of the transformation of political institutions and the transition from the dictatorship to the period of democratic transition. Within the framework of popular education, participation training has traditionally been implemented in educational settings linked to class, age, productive sectors, party affiliations, or territorial location.
