ABSTRACT
We are currently living right in the midst of a grand new mytho-theological project: the complete mapping of human DNA in the Human Genome Project (HGP). This project and its permutations and “progressions” and the teeming lists of arguments and consequences (claimed, presumed, feared, seen and unforeseen)—from Dolly the sheep to genetically modified pigs ripe for xenotransplantation, to genetically modified organisms (GMOs), to the horribly named and newly (Canadian) patented “oncomouse”—is proceeding at such a rapid rate that it is impossible to make this sentence seem up-to-date on the latest news.
