ABSTRACT
The dance language hypothesis as an explana tion for the recruitment of honey bees to food sources has persisted for five decades, despite an experimental challenge that began 25 years ago and despite an ever-accumulating body of evi dence at variance with that hypothesis. Appar ently evidence is not at issue in this matter. Rather, the controversy revolves around differ ences in biases, definitions, assumptions, and attitudes toward hypothesis testing.
