ABSTRACT

Chimpanzee behavior has been studied from two very different points of view. One is the experi mental approach to the behavior of captive chim panzees; this approach comes mainly from with in the field of psychology. The other is the field observation of the behavior of wild chimpanzees; this comes mainly from within the field of ecol ogy. This essay aims to review a new research direction synthesizing the two separate fields.
