ABSTRACT

It is often assumed that the primary goal of tourism destination planning and management is to increase the number of tourist arrivals. Thus, many projects focus on promotion in the client market and neglect the communities that host tourists. However, unbridled, unmanaged growth can do irreparable harm to local societies and their environment, jeopardizing the sector’s own development potential. Burgeoning tourism eats up space, and the influx of tourists puts extra pressure on the natural environment, bringing about major changes in the local culture.
