ABSTRACT

This case is very flexible and can be used in a beginning or advanced class that addresses the issue of risk and its management. It has been used in both graduate and undergraduate courses in business, tourism, and environmental management. It is very appropriate for studies in recreation and outdoor adventure. Adventure guide courses would find this case useful in identifying risk associated with adventure sports and determining control policies and procedures that will help to minimize the risk associated with these sports. Although the concepts in this case are easily adapted to environmental risk, the case focuses more on the social aspect (safety) of sustainability rather than the ecological aspect.
