ABSTRACT

The Feminist Companion to the Bible is a celebration. It is a celebration of feminist biblical scholarship as a viable and vibrant area within the discipline of biblical studies. It is a celebration of the dynamic growth and diversity of feminist biblical scholarship over a century, but particularly over the last twenty years. It is a celebration of intellectual interest in women and women's issues related to the Hebrew biblical tradition, an interest that has finally found extensive expression after millennia of neglect and suppression. It is a celebration of women scholars and their scholarship in a field that had been so heavily dominated by men. And it is a celebration of the fact that some male biblical scholars are learning to include women and women's issues in their own scholarship on the bible.
