ABSTRACT
The Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) in southeastern Australia is known as the nation’s “food bowl” (Figure 3.1). A naturally highly variable system, the Basin is characterized by droughts and floods. However, the unprecedented longevity and severity of continuing dry conditions is resulting in significant impacts on communities, irrigators and the environment.
