ABSTRACT

A future scenario: Melissa, a mathematics professor at a community college, sometimes has to pinch herself because things seem so different from 15 years ago. She used to walk around campus feeling like a second-class citizen. She struggled with her bills and the unstable employment gave her ulcers; her car was a makeshift office, and it was certainly not a great place to meet students. Melissa remembers the constant frustration of finding out a few days before class that not only had her teaching schedule changed, but also discovering that the textbooks or learning goals had been changed. She would scramble to make changes, but lacked clerical support.
