ABSTRACT
A Japanese prime minister possesses numerous political resources under the British-style parliamentary system. As head of the cabinet that is vested with executive power, the prime minister is at the top of the executive branch. He leads the political party or a coalition of parties that holds the majority of seats in the powerful Lower House. The prime minister handles both administrative and political affairs as the leader of the government and the ruling party or coalition.
