ABSTRACT

Everyday living involves negotiation. Some individuals negotiate flexible working patterns with their managers at work. Others negotiate an early finish from work so they can make their medical appointment at a time that they negotiated with their doctor’s receptionist. Beyond the workplace, it is normal for parents to negotiate with their teenage children over the time of their curfew, or their child’s desire to go on holiday with friends. We are all negotiators to some degree or another. Consider the following example of a teenager negotiating their curfew with their parent who is keen for them to be in early.
