President Obama assumed office under difficult circumstances. He confronted an economic crisis of historic magnitude, two wars, and sky-rocketing deficits. This made getting an effective team in place quickly even more important than normal. The persons Obama and his team selected have managed the day-to-day affairs of government and have had a key impact on the administration’s performance.
