ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on supervision skills used by probation officers. It provides a summary of the research about the relationship between supervision skills and effectiveness. It then reports on a study in the department of youth justice in New South Wales, Australia which involved the observation of interviews between probation officers and their clients, the identification of the skills that were used in those interviews and the responses by clients to the use of those skills.
